It’s official. We’re in the middle of the holiday season. Fa la la la la la la la la! I hope everyone that attended the holiday open house enjoyed themselves and had a chance to have a glass of wine courtesy of Portalis wine shop and enjoy some good conversation with your neighbors. Thanks to Cat Burns and everyone that organized this annual tradition.
Now that we are in the middle of the holiday season it’s also time for us on the board to deal with year-end activities and look towards 2016.
One thing for the New Year that I’m pleased to announce is that we’ve hired a new Club/Association Manager. Her name is Michelle Morgan and she will start January 4th. She comes to us with a great deal of experience in both property and homeowners association management. We had several very qualified candidates which allowed us to examine and redefine the scope of the position. Michelle will take on more responsibility in management of the pool and with her background she will offer us the opportunity to continue to improve our processes as an association and help us enhance our community assets.
I’d like to offer my thanks to Karen Bombino who filled the gap for us over the past few months during the transition from Ahsha to Michelle. Karen we sincerely appreciate ALL of the volunteer roles you fill in Blue Ridge!
At the December board meeting we will approve the 2016 Budget. Right now the proposed budget keeps our dues the same as last year. We are in a strong cash position and our reserves have been built to a level that meets our needs. We have made slow progress on our list of maintenance projects and Capital improvements. This next year, however, we will be taking a hard look at much needed work on the Clubhouse (front exterior, roof repair) as well as potential improvements to the pool deck and equipment. This will require input from the community on how to best maintain and improve these important assets as well as how to pay for them.
While it feels like I’m jumping ahead, I want to remind you that the Annual Shareholder’s meeting and board elections are just around the corner on February 1, 2016. Ballots will go out in mid-January.
I’m thrilled to announce that Brooke Walker has volunteered to join the Board as Security Chair Lauren Rowland ends her term. Lauren thank you so much for your outstanding service! Brooke, we are thrilled to have you!
As I look back on 2015, I’m grateful for many things including that I live in a pretty great place. As I have gotten more involved in the Blue Ridge community, I’ve met some pretty great people too. I wish you all the best this holiday season and a happy new year.
