Carlos is returning this summer for his 10th year as head coach of the Blue Ridge Barracudas.
Carlos grew up in Sevilla and Madrid, Spain, and he swam successfully there. After his arrival to the States in the late 80s, Carlos began coaching. He started with youth sports with the YMCA in Tacoma, then after college he coached rowing at Seattle University and at Lake Washington Rowing Club. He eventually returned to the pool where he coached swimming at Ballard High School for 8 seasons and Holy Names Academy for 13.
Fun fact about Carlos: he was actually born in the United States. His father was a professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and that is where he was born, which explains why he is a Browns fan.
Carlos and his wife, Lisa, have two boys on the Blue Ridge team; Mariano (9) and Paco (11)
Glen began swimming on the Blue Ridge Swim team as an 8 & under and began “living” at the pool during the summers from age seven until the age of thirty. He began teaching swimming at the BR pool when he was fourteen and continues to teach swimming to this day. Glen was a coach for the Blue Ridge swim team for many years until 1998 and was excited for the opportunity to have his children join the swim team five years ago. He is very happy to be working with the Blue Ridge swim team again this year as an assistant coach.
Tucker grew up one block away from the Blue Ridge Pool and has spent every summer around the water since he was 2 years old. He began swimming for the Blue Ridge Swim Team when he was 6 and at the age of 12 he transitioned into playing select soccer for Emerald City F.C. and later Seattle United where he was team captain for 4 years. Tucker has worked at the pool for 8 years and has has been a Swim Instructor, Lifeguard and now Pool Manager. In the off-season, Tucker attends Western Washington University where he studies Economics and Accounting.
Melissa began swimming for Blue Ridge when she was 6 years old and went until 18. She is now coaching for her third year at BR and is a senior at Pacific Lutheran University and on the varsity swim team. Melissa broke 5 swimming school records at PLU, and is currently an Academic All American. Through PLU she has also coached the Special Olympics swim teams and has been involved in many kids clinics at PLU. She is majoring in accounting and graduating Spring 2016. Melissa loves still being involved in the Blue Ridge swim team and is thrilled for the opportunity to coach.
Caroline is super excited to be an assistant coach. She couldn’t imagine a summer without swim team, swimming for the Blue Ridge Barracudas herself since age seven. She swam for her high school team and plays water polo. She’s returned from her first year at the University of Washington and is happy to be back in Blue Ridge for the summer!
